Sometimes you need a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Maybe you want to move away from big city living or perhaps you simply want to see what interesting small towns are out there and learn more about their fascinating histories, dine at hole-in-the-wall restaurants, take a leisurely stroll to see the natural splendor or have some fun at unique attractions. Fortunately, there are plenty such hidden gems found around the country that are worth visiting on a day trip or weekend getaway.
HGTV searched around the country for "charming" hamlets and villages to compile a list of the "best kept secret" of the best small town in every state. According to the site, the top choice for Washington is the waterfront locale of La Conner.
Here's what HGTV had to say about this quaint spot:
"Visitors often come to La Conner, Washington, a small town on the waterfront, for some 'retail therapy' at its galleries, needlecraft and quilt stores, gift shops and wine bars. It's also known for its delicious eateries and, for travelers, its easy access to Interstate 5 and the ferry to the San Juan Islands. Each spring, La Conner hosts its popular Daffodil Festival, where thousands of cheerful daffs open against the backdrop of Mt. Baker. More tulips, iris and daffodil bulbs are produced in La Conner than any other county in the U.S."
